 stars

Thunderbird Park & Cedar Creek Lodges are majestically nestled in the lush green Gold Coast Hinterland of Tamborine Mountain. Known as the 'green behind the gold', this region is acclaimed for its radiant landscapes, opulent rainforests, and cascading waterfalls. It truly offers a one-of-a-kind enriching experience for holidaymakers, particularly for families looking out for a unique getaway this school holidays.

1. An Ultimate Test of Courage - TreeTop Challenge

Brace yourself for an unforgettable treetop adventure at Thunderbird Park's TreeTop Challenge, the highest and longest adventure ropes course in Australia. Geared up with safety harnesses and helmets, participants can soar through the rainforest canopy on thrilling flying foxes, navigate rope bridges, scale treetop platforms, and conquer over hundred adrenaline-pumping challenges.

Combining exciting obstacles with breathtaking natural scenery, the TreeTop Challenge is more than just a high ropes course. It's an incredible way to test your courage, boost your self-confidence, and experience the beauty of Tamborine Mountain from a bird's-eye view. Whether you're a daring thrill-seeker or a complete beginner, the TreeTop Challenge has something for everyone.

2. Digging Dreams: Australia's Premier Mini Excavator Park – Dig IT!

The newest and most exciting offering for little adventurers at the park is Dig IT! Here, kids get the chance to sit in the driver's seat of a 1.7-tonne mini excavator and navigate the world of heavy machinery. They'll dig, relocate materials, and even play a game of 'catch the croc' with guidance from a trained supervisor.

This unique hands-on experience not only offers an incredible thrill but also inspires a sense of achievement and builds coordination skills. For little and big kids alike!

3. Prehistoric Adventure: Thunderegg Fossicking & Crystal Panning

Add a touch of wonder to your holiday with Thunderbird Park's Thunderegg Fossicking—the world's largest open-cut Thunderegg mine! Thundereggs, also known as volcanic birthstones, are unique formations that were created by bubbles in prehistoric volcanic lava. Now, they lie hidden as treasures waiting to be discovered by keen-eyed fossickers.

Provided with a pick and a pail, you and your little miners get to dig into ancient volcanic deposits to find your very own Thundereggs. What's more exciting is that no two Thundereggs are alike. Some might have layers of minerals, while others might hold intricate crystal formations inside.

The thrill of finding a Thunderegg and the anticipation of cutting it open to reveal its hidden beauty make for an engaging and educational experience. After a day of successful fossicking, you can take your precious finds to the Thunderbird Park's Thunderegg Shack, where experts will cut and polish them for a small fee.

Thunderegg Fossicking offers an excellent opportunity to awaken the geologist within you and your kids. It's an amazing activity that combines fun with education—making learning about Earth's history an unforgettable experience.

4. Swing Into Action: Thunderbird's Mini Golf & Laser Odyssey

Mini Golf & Laser Skirmish is a must-visit destination for outdoor enthusiasts, offering diverse attractions. The mini-golf course, with three holes per green of varying difficulty levels, provides a family-friendly challenge amidst the scenic Thunderbird Park landscape.

Meanwhile, the Laser Skirmish activity adds excitement with an immersive battle simulation set in the park's tropical jungle environment. Thunderbird Park stands out as the only outdoor laser skirmish location in the Gold Coast Hinterland, offering a unique experience. The natural rock formations and tree cover enhance the jungle warfare setting, creating an authentic and thrilling adventure for all.

5. Dining Delights: Rainforest Restaurant and Terrace Kiosk

Feasting on delicious food is a quintessential part of any holiday, and at Thunderbird Park and Cedar Creek Lodges, you are in for a culinary treat. Whether it's a snack, a hearty breakfast, a lazy lunch, or a romantic dinner, there's something for everyone here.

Open for breakfast daily, and for lunch and dinner on select days, the restaurant provides a plethora of contemporary dishes created with love and local produce. They also boast of a full wine list to complement your meal. When not serving as a restaurant, you can order a generous platter to enjoy in your lodge or room.

Terrace Kiosk on the contrary offers a casual dining experience. From a wood-fired pizza oven and burgers to baguettes and salads, the affordable and tasty meals are perfect for a quick bite between your adventures at the park. It's also a saviour for parents seeking that caffeine hit and an ice-block treat for the kids.

7. Rainforest Roughing It: Enjoy the Classic Camping or Caravanning Experience

Immerse yourself in the hinterland's tranquillity with traditional camping at Thunderbird Park. Choose from powered or unpowered sites, some near captivating rock pools. Modern amenities, including showers, toilets, and a well-equipped camp kitchen, offer comfort and convenience.

Set your agenda—roast marshmallows, play games, and embrace unique Aussie flora. The Thunderbird Park campsite combines the best of nature, convenience and of course access to an array of activities to keep the kids amused.

8. Pristine Waters: Experience Cedar Creek Falls or Private Rock Pools

Cedar Creek Falls make a perfect picnic spot for families. The cascading water over ancient rocks into a deep pool below gives you the perfect opportunity for swimming and larking about in the water. The crystal-clear water brings you closer to nature and helps in rejuvenating your senses.

For guests staying on the property, Thunderbird Park has access to some fantastic rock pools along a section of Cedar Creek. These natural rock pools, filled with clear mountain water, are a great way to cool down after a tiring day of adventure and exploration. The park has also built a walking trail that runs through these stunning rock pools, making it a great walk, especially in summer.

9. Visit an array of National Parks: Knoll Road & Witches Falls - The Hidden Gem of Gold Coast.

Immerse yourself in some of Queensland's most spectacular natural scenery at the National Parks surrounding Thunderbird Park and Cedar Creek Lodges. Knoll Road lies within the Joalah section of the Tamborine National Park. It provides breathtaking views of Tamborine Mountain and Pacific Ocean. The well-maintained bushwalking paths are perfect for nature walks and picnic outings. Keep your eyes peeled for forest wallabies, goannas, various birds, and other native wildlife. The overlook gives you an exceptional view of the falls cascading over the giant rock face during a heavy downpour.

Witches Falls, named as Queensland's first National Park in 1908, is a must-visit. The beautiful Witches Falls circuit leads you beneath the dense rainforest canopy down to seasonal lagoons and a waterfall. Whether you are an adventurous hiker or a leisurely stroller, these parks give you countless avenues to explore Australia's unique and diverse environment. From the crisp mountain air to stunning panoramas, abundant wildlife and ancient trees, it's an unforgettable chance to connect authentically with nature.

10. Keeping it Cool: Lower Summer Temperatures

Coolness is one of the defining features of Tamborine Mountain. On average, temperatures on the mountain are 5 degrees cooler than the Gold Coast, providing a refreshing respite on hot Queensland summer days. As Tamborine Mountain also boasts cool mountain waters, there’s also the opportunity to swim and cool down during those warmer months!

Together, Thunderbird Park and Cedar Creek Lodges provide the ideal opportunity to disconnect from the city's hustle and reconnect with nature. So pack your bags and buckle up for an unforgettable holiday at this enchanting retreat!

Team Building Activities at Cedar Creek Lodges stars

The Power of Team Building

In today's dynamic and competitive business landscape, the concept of 'team' is at the heart of success. Organisations, large and small, understand the significance of cohesive, motivated teams that collaborate seamlessly to achieve common goals. This is where the power of team building comes into play.

However, the success of these gatherings hinges on the experience of the attendees. If attendees are not engaged, your event may fall flat. In this article, we will discuss how to plan an engaging team-building event and why Cedar Creek Lodges is the ideal venue to ensure your event reaches its potential.

How To Engage Your Team

When planning your conference or event, remember that the guest experience matters most. Engaged guests are more likely to learn and interact, leaving with a positive impression. To achieve this, you need to provide opportunities for collaboration, problem-solving, learning, networking, and goal achievement in a fun and engaging way. That's where team building comes in.

Team building activities and games can enhance engagement, add meaning to your event, and foster lasting relationships among attendees. However, it's essential to choose the right activities. Poorly chosen team building activities can have the opposite effect. Thankfully, Cedar Creek Lodges offers a selection of team building experiences that will leave your guests excited for more.

“Guide To Taking Your Dog on Holiday” - 13 September 2023

 stars

Dog Holiday Guide

Since our furry friends are cherished members of our family, it's only natural to want to bring them along on holiday. The good news is that you can! At Cedar Creek Lodges we offer dog-friendly accommodations where your dog can enjoy a luxurious stay while you vacation.

With some careful planning and preparation, you and your beloved canine companion can embark on a memorable getaway together. In this comprehensive guide, we'll delve into all the essential tips and tricks you need to know for vacationing with your dog.

What to Pack for Your Dog

Just like you pack your bags for a vacation, your furry friend needs some essentials too. Here's a checklist of items you'll need to pack for your dog:

  • Vaccination records: Ensure your dog's vaccinations are up to date.
  • Leash: Your dog should already be wearing their collar with identification tags.
  • Food and water: Don't forget to pack enough food and water for the duration of your trip, along with bowls.
  • Treats: Reward your pup for good behavior and as a distraction during travel.
  • Toys: Bring some of their favorite toys to keep them entertained.
  • Blanket or bed: A familiar blanket or bed can provide comfort in unfamiliar surroundings.
  • Crate: If your dog is crate-trained, bringing one along can provide a secure space.
  • Medications: Don't forget any necessary medications your dog might need.
  • Pet first aid kit: It's always wise to be prepared for any minor injuries.
  • Poop bags: Be responsible and clean up after your dog.
  • Cleaning products: Just in case of accidents or messes.
  • Current photos: Have printed and digital photos in case your dog gets lost.

How to Prepare Your Dog To Travel

Traveling with your dog is an exciting adventure, but it demands careful planning and preparation to ensure a safe and enjoyable journey for both you and your furry companion. Before embarking on your adventure, there are several key aspects you should consider to make the experience as smooth as possible.

Practice Riding in the Car

If your dog isn't accustomed to car rides, it's essential to help them acclimate to the experience. Start with short trips around your local area, gradually increasing the duration of each ride. If your dog continues to feel anxious in the car, consult with your veterinarian for advice. Also remember to keep your dog entertained during long car rides with distractions like a frozen Kong stuffed with treats.

Put Safety First

Your dog's safety is paramount during road trips and longer drives. Ensure your dog has plenty of space in the car for comfort and safety. Avoid placing bags or luggage next to them. Consider these safety measures:

  • Secure your dog in a travel crate that's firmly attached to the vehicle floor or the backseat. Opt for a crash-tested crate.
  • Alternatively, use a crash-tested car safety harness and seat belt to restrain your dog in the backseat.
  • Ensure easy access to food, water, and treats, and lay out towels or a tarp if your dog is messy.
  • Take breaks every three to four hours for bathroom breaks and hydration. Leash your dog before letting them out of the car.
  • If you're renting a car for your travels, it's crucial to confirm that the vehicle is pet-friendly and compliant with pet transportation rules.

Preparing For Travel with Your Dog

Basic Training

First and foremost, it's essential to assess your dog's behavior and obedience. Ensure that your dog is well-behaved and responsive to basic commands. This includes commands such as "sit," "stay," and "come." Basic training not only contributes to a more pleasant travel experience but also enhances safety by allowing you to manage your dog effectively in various situations.

The Right Crate

If you're planning to fly with your dog, selecting the appropriate crate is of paramount importance. Choose a sturdy and well-ventilated crate that complies with airline requirements. Airlines have specific guidelines regarding crate dimensions, materials, and safety features. A secure and comfortable crate ensures your dog's safety and comfort during the flight.

Health Check

A thorough health check for your dog is a vital step before any journey. Schedule a visit to your veterinarian for a comprehensive check-up, vaccinations, and advice on preventing motion sickness. Ensure that your dog is up-to-date on vaccinations and in good overall health to withstand the rigors of travel. Your vet can also recommend preventive measures and medications to address motion sickness, if necessary.

Food and Medications

Pack all the essentials your dog will need during the trip. This includes your dog's regular food, treats, and any necessary medications. Familiar food can help keep your dog comfortable and prevent dietary issues while away from home. Additionally, don't forget to bring bottled water and a travel bowl to ensure your dog has access to fresh, clean water throughout the journey.

Frequent Breaks

Whether you're embarking on a road trip or flying to your destination, it's essential to plan for regular stops. During road trips, make frequent stops for bathroom breaks, exercise, and hydration. These breaks not only cater to your dog's physical needs but also provide an opportunity for both you and your dog to stretch your legs and refresh before continuing the journey.

Pet-Friendly Vacation Activities

Vacationing with your dog opens up a world of exciting possibilities for both you and your furry companion. Here are some delightful pet-friendly activities to consider when planning your trip:

Hit the Beach

Many coastal destinations offer dog-friendly beaches where your four-legged friend can frolic in the sea and bask in the sun. These beaches provide an excellent opportunity for your dog to cool off, play in the sand, and enjoy the salty breeze. While at the beach, ensure your dog stays hydrated and provide shaded areas to prevent overheating. Remember to follow any local regulations regarding dogs on the beach to ensure a respectful and enjoyable experience for everyone.

Take a Ride

Explore the scenic beauty of your vacation spot by embarking on leisurely drives or private transport options that accommodate your dog. Consider visiting botanical gardens, lakes, and charming towns with your canine companion by your side. Punting on serene lakes or cruising along picturesque routes can be a soothing and enjoyable experience for both you and your dog.

Workout & Explore

Get active and connect with nature by going on invigorating hikes or participating in outdoor fitness classes with your dog. Nature hikes offer a fantastic opportunity to explore the natural wonders of your destination while allowing your dog to expend energy and revel in the great outdoors. For a unique bonding experience, you can even try doggy yoga or "Doga" classes, where you and your dog can participate in yoga sessions together, promoting relaxation and harmony.

Get Pampered

Treat yourself and your dog to a luxurious getaway by booking a stay at a pet-friendly hotel. Many hotels now offer pet-friendly rooms and amenities to ensure a comfortable and enjoyable stay for both you and your furry friend. Indulge in room service dining where you can savor delectable meals while your dog relaxes in the room. Alternatively, consider going on a wine-tasting tour designed for both you and your pet. These tours often include gourmet treats and gifts for your dog, creating a memorable and pampered experience.

Dog-Friendly Accommodation Mt Tamborine

At Cedar Creek Lodges on Tamborine Mountain, we understand that pets are cherished members of your family. That's why we welcome both you and your four-legged companions with open arms. Our self-contained Creek Lodges provide a peaceful escape for humans and animals alike, featuring spa baths, wood fireplaces, and private balconies overlooking Cedar Creek's rainforest.

Understanding Corporate Retreats and Their Benefits

Corporate retreats are strategic off-site gatherings designed to promote team bonding, boost morale, and provide employees with a break from their daily routines. These retreats take place at various locations, including hotels, wilderness retreats, and specialised retreat centres.

These retreats offer a myriad of advantages that contribute to the growth and success of businesses. Let's delve into how these retreats bring about positive transformations:

Team Building

Effective teamwork is the cornerstone of a productive work environment. Corporate retreats go beyond the office walls, providing opportunities for engaging team-building exercises. These activities not only strengthen relationships but also foster a profound sense of community among employees. As colleagues collaborate, communicate, and conquer challenges together, a unified and harmonious team emerges.

Avoiding Burnout

In the hustle and bustle of the corporate world, employee well-being is paramount. Retreats act as a respite, offering a chance for rest, relaxation, and rejuvenation. By disconnecting from the everyday grind, employees can recharge their energies, preventing burnout and promoting sustained productivity.

Morale Boost

Elevated morale is a catalyst for a positive workplace atmosphere. Corporate retreats serve as an avenue for companies to express gratitude and appreciation to their hardworking employees. This tangible display of recognition creates a conducive environment that cultivates high morale, leading to increased job satisfaction and overall contentment.

Innovation and Brainstorming

Retreats provide the perfect environment for cultivating innovative thinking and brainstorming sessions. Freed from the confines of routine, employees are encouraged to share and explore new ideas. The relaxed atmosphere sparks creativity, facilitating open discussions that lead to the generation of novel concepts and creative solutions.

Reassessing Priorities

Corporate retreats offer a unique opportunity to reassess and realign company priorities. By gathering valuable input from staff members and aligning goals with the collective vision, businesses can ensure that their strategic direction remains relevant and aligned with the evolving landscape.

Professional Development

Learning and growth are central to corporate retreats. Workshops and training sessions conducted during retreats empower employees to enhance their skills, fostering personal and professional development. This investment not only benefits individual career trajectories but also contributes to the overall performance of the company.

Communication Improvement

Effective communication is the foundation of any successful organization. Retreats provide a relaxed setting that encourages open and meaningful communication. By connecting on a deeper level, employees form stronger bonds, leading to improved collaboration, understanding, and harmony in the workplace.

Trust Building

Spending quality time outside the confines of the office environment facilitates trust-building among team members. Interacting in a different context allows colleagues to connect on a more personal level, nurturing relationships that are essential for cohesive teamwork. This trust cultivates a more harmonious and united work environment.

Creative Thinking

Stepping outside of the familiar office environment stimulates creative thinking. Retreats encourage employees to venture beyond their comfort zones, leading to innovative approaches and solutions. The Best Things About Hinterland Weddings

Are you in the process of planning your dream wedding? If you're looking for a unique and picturesque setting, consider hosting your special day amidst the natural beauty of the hinterland. A hinterland wedding offers numerous advantages that can make your wedding day truly unforgettable.

From the stunning scenery to the intimate and personal atmosphere, here are some benefits of choosing a hinterland wedding:

The scenery

One of the biggest advantages of hosting an outdoor wedding in the hinterland is the natural scenery. Unlike indoor venues that require extensive decorations, the hinterland provides a breathtaking backdrop that does most of the decorating for your ceremony. Fresh greenery, natural lighting, and well-kept landscapes create a magical ambience that sets the stage for your special day.

A more intimate setting

An outdoor wedding in the hinterland offers a more intimate and personal atmosphere. Surrounded by nature, family, and friends, there's an added sense of closeness and connection. You can make the environment work for you by adding personal touches through photographs, mementos, and other meaningful items. The blank canvas of the outdoors allows you to infuse your personality into every aspect of your wedding.

Enough room

If you're planning a larger wedding, the hinterland provides ample space to accommodate your guest list. Outdoor venues in the hinterland are often more spacious and versatile than indoor locations, allowing you to set up separate areas for your ceremony, refreshments, and reception. With more space, your guests can spread out comfortably, creating a relaxed and enjoyable atmosphere.

Great photo ops

Hinterland comes with a range of beautiful opportunities for stunning wedding photography. Natural lighting in the hinterland creates the perfect conditions for stunning wedding photography. The soft and diffused natural light enhances the beauty of the surroundings and makes everyone look their best. From panoramic views to lush landscapes, the hinterland offers a variety of scenic backdrops for your wedding photos that will be cherished for a lifetime.

Natural Light & Fresh Air

Hosting an outdoor wedding in the hinterland allows you to enjoy the benefits of natural light and fresh air. Natural light is universally flattering and creates a warm and radiant atmosphere for your ceremony. Fresh air not only contributes to the overall well-being of your guests but also alleviates any concerns related to COVID-19. Embracing the outdoors ensures a healthier and happier environment for everyone.

Casual & Relaxed

If you're looking for a more casual and relaxed atmosphere for your wedding, an outdoor ceremony in the hinterland is the perfect choice. Indoor ceremonies can often feel too formal, while an outdoor ceremony allows you to embrace the natural surroundings and create a more laid-back vibe. You can design a wedding that matches your desired atmosphere and make your guests feel comfortable and at ease.

Seamless transitions

Hosting your wedding in the hinterland allows for a seamless transition from the ceremony to the refreshments and reception party. With everything in the same outdoor venue, you and your guests can move effortlessly between different parts of the celebration. This convenience adds to the overall enjoyment of the day and allows everyone to fully immerse themselves in the festivities.

Unforgettable Experience

A garden wedding ceremony offers numerous opportunities for creating memorable moments. From exchanging vows under a beautiful floral arch to having a romantic first dance surrounded by twinkling lights, every aspect of your wedding can be tailored to create lasting memories for both you and your guests. Intimate Setting: Gardens often provide a more intimate setting compared to larger indoor venues.

Include Your Pets

Pets can be included in outdoor wedding ceremonies. If you consider your pet a part of the family, an outdoor wedding in the hinterland offers the opportunity to include them in your special day. Many outdoor venues are pet-friendly, allowing you to have your furry friend by your side as you exchange your vows. Including your pet adds a personal touch and creates unforgettable memories.

depressed dog

Family-friendly atmosphere

The natural surroundings create a cozy and warm atmosphere, allowing you to celebrate your special day surrounded by your closest family and friends. This intimate setting fosters a stronger sense of connection and togetherness. Outdoor Activities: In addition to the ceremony and reception, a garden wedding can offer additional outdoor activities for you and your guests to enjoy. Whether it's lawn games, a cozy bonfire, or a late-night stargazing session, these activities add a playful and joyful element to your wedding celebration. Conclusion:

Plan Your dream Hinterland Wedding

Whether you dream of an intimate gathering or a larger celebration, a garden wedding can provide the perfect setting to say "I do" surrounded by nature's splendour and the love of your friends and family.

“Tips on How To Plan A Destination Wedding | Cedar Creek Lodges” - 30 March 2023

Destination Wedding: A planning guide stars

Destination weddings can be a dream come true for couples who want to tie the knot in a stunning location surrounded by family and friends. However, planning a destination wedding can be daunting, especially if it's your first time.

In this article, we'll guide you through the steps of planning a destination wedding in one of Queensland's most naturally stunning locations – Tamborine Mountain in the Gold Coast hinterlands, with Cedar Creek Lodges as the wedding venue.

Why Have a Destination Wedding?

Destination weddings offer the perfect combination of a wedding, holiday, and honeymoon, all in one package. However, many couples are put off by the perceived high cost and planning involved. The reality is that with the help of a wedding planner or coordinator specialising in destination weddings, planning your wedding could be easier than planning a non-destination wedding. Additionally, a destination wedding naturally culls your guestlist, making it more intimate and special.

Steps to Planning a Destination Wedding

Choose a Location

When selecting a destination, you need to consider several factors. Firstly, make sure it's safe for all your guests, including children (if invited). Ensure there are no travel warnings, political issues, or health concerns in the country or region you're visiting. Secondly, ensure that the majority of your guests can afford to travel there.

If you want as many people as possible to be able to attend, staying in the country without passport requirements is the safest bet. Additionally, if you have elderly family members or guests, ensure the travel time to your destination is feasible for them.

Hire a Professional Local Planner

Find a local wedding coordinator who specialises in destination weddings. They will have the inside scoop on everything, from the best vendors to creative ideas and what to avoid. You're going to need feet on the ground before you arrive to finalise all the last-minute details so you and your guests can arrive stress-free.

Visit Your Venue in Advance

If possible, visit your wedding venue in advance. This will help you plan out the day as much as possible, including sound checks, travel time to and from venues, seating, and parking spaces. Doing this in person will give you a better idea of the layout and the potential challenges you might face.

Plan Additional Events

Extending the wedding to a Day 2 or Day 3 when it's a destination wedding is becoming increasingly common. Many couples feel like they want to provide their guests with as much value as possible and "reward" them for coming all the way to the chosen destination. Depending on your budget, you can combine these events with your rehearsal dinner or host a more informal gathering, like a BBQ or a wine tasting tour the day after the big event.

Send Items in Advance and Pack Carefully

Shipping can be expensive, especially if you're sending items overseas. Make a list early on of things you will need to bring that you cannot access at the destination of the wedding. Then determine what you can bring with you as luggage, and what has to be shipped.

Be Thorough with Communication

Keeping your guests in the loop about details such as things to do in the area, the itinerary of events, and the weather will help them pack accordingly. Creating a wedding website is a popular way of keeping guests informed of any updates, including saving the dates and RSVPs.

Enjoy the Moment

Remember, what it's all about is enjoying one of the most special days of your life! So, roll with the punches, don't take it all too seriously, and hug everyone that made the trek to join you on your special day.

Tips on How To Plan A Destination Wedding

“How To Create A Memorable Wedding” - 20 February 2023

 stars

Wedding ceremonies are truly magical. They’re the one event where you as a couple will get to celebrate your love with all your nearest and dearest, and it’s important that it lives up to your expectations. At Cedar Creek Estate we have been lucky enough to see many happy Gold Coast couples tie the knot, and have learnt what works and what doesn’t. In this article, we have gathered a few of our best tips on how to create a memorable wedding.

Choreograph a special dance

Everyone’s expecting to see a dance at the wedding, whether it be between the bride and the groom, the bride and her father or the entire bridal party. For people with two left feet, getting a few professional dance lessons is not a bad idea. If you want to make your ‘first dance’ more memorable, consider choreographing a special dance. Wowing your guests with some fancy footwork will leave them with even more great memories of your special day, and will entice more people to utilise the dancefloor and join in on the fun.

Creating a themed wedding

A popular way to make the ceremony more unique and to show guests your and your partner’s personalities is through a themed wedding. A themed wedding can revolve around any idea or concept that you and your partner love, whether it's based on a favourite movie, a specific era, a particular colour scheme, or anything else.

Planning a themed wedding allows you to incorporate your favourite elements into every aspect of the celebration, from the decorations to the music to the attire. It can also create a cohesive and immersive experience for your guests, who will feel like they're part of a special event that reflects your personality and style. Whether you want a whimsical fairy tale wedding or a glamorous Hollywood-inspired affair, a themed wedding can help you bring your dream wedding to life.

All about the music

Music is a very important part of the wedding. Hiring the right entertainment, whether it be a band, a DJ or an acoustic wedding singer, the music can make or break a wedding. Make sure you do your due diligence when hiring your entertainment and consider asking your guests for song requests on the wedding invitations. This way you ensure that everyone will be happy with the choice of music and feel part of the wedding.

Another popular music trend at weddings lately is to skip the traditional wedding march songs and instead walk down the aisle to a song that’s special to you and your partner.

A unique guestbook

We’re not suggesting that traditional guestbooks are boring, but there are certainly more creative ways to have your guests sign in for the wedding. Recently, many brides and grooms have opted for photo booths instead, which are easy to hire and will create fun and everlasting memories for your guests on your special day. Other creative ideas include signing a special object that reflects you as a couple; a guitar, a world map or a piece of furniture.

Choose a great celebrant

When selecting a celebrant, there are several key factors to consider. First and foremost, look for someone who shares your values and understands the vision you have for your ceremony. A good celebrant will take the time to get to know you as a couple and create a personalised ceremony that reflects your unique personalities and preferences. Consider their communication skills and level of professionalism, as you want someone who is reliable, organised, and able to handle any unexpected situations that may arise on the day of the wedding. Look for an experienced celebrant who has a strong reputation in the industry, and ask for references from past clients. With these considerations in mind, you can find a great wedding celebrant who will help you create a truly memorable and meaningful wedding ceremony.

Farewell in style

Sadly, all things must come to an end, even your amazing wedding day. However, you can make sure you say farewell to your guests in style. If you are wanting to end your wedding on a high note, consider exiting the way you entered – to your favourite music or choreographed dance. You can also incorporate confetti, sparkles or even fireworks to make sure you go out with a band, quite literally.

Choosing an incredible venue

The wedding venue is arguably one of the most crucial decisions to be made when planning a wedding. It is the backdrop to the entire event and can have a significant impact on the overall experience for both the couple and their guests. By choosing a beautiful venue with great facilities, features, food, and other amenities, you can create a memorable and enjoyable wedding day without a big fuss. A well-appointed venue can help set the tone for the day and create the desired atmosphere. Whether you are looking for a cozy and intimate setting or a grand and luxurious one, the right venue can provide the perfect ambiance to complement your vision. Additionally, a beautiful venue with excellent amenities can help make your guests feel comfortable and enhance their experience throughout the day.

How To Create A Memorable Wedding

“Tips for Outdoor Wedding Ceremonies” - 2 February 2023

 stars

There are few things as beautiful as saying ‘I do” in a magical outdoor setting. However, planning an outdoor wedding comes with a unique set of challenges and requires a bit of extra forethought. This article provides our top tips to help you put together a bulletproof plan for your outdoor wedding ceremony.

Choose the right location

Top of the list in your wedding planning should be the location. Outdoor wedding ceremonies lend themselves to a truly breathtaking nature experience, whether it'll be with the beach, mountains or a rainforest as a backdrop, however, you still have to choose one. Once you have decided where you’d like to tie the know, there are a few things you should take into consideration:

  • Accessibility: Make sure the location is easily accessible for all your guests, especially elderly participants and those with mobility issues.
  • Amenities: Check if the location has restrooms, parking, and other facilities that your guests will need.
  • Size: Make sure the location is large enough to accommodate all your guests, and also has enough space for the ceremony, cocktail hour, and reception.
  • Availability: Check if the location is available on your desired wedding date and if it has any other events scheduled for the same day.
  • Permits: Check if a permit is required to hold a wedding at the location and if there are any restrictions or limitations on the time, noise level, or decorations.

Get a permit

Most councils in Australia require permits to use public places like parks and beaches. You may have to apply for a permit if you wish to have a particularly large wedding, or if you intend to play loud music pas a certain time. You also want to ensure there are no planned roadworks or construction by the council in or around the area on your wedding day that can disrupt your ceremony. To avoid disappointment, make sure you check with the council in your area well ahead of time.

Plan the wedding photos

Wedding photography is a crucial aspect of capturing the memories of your special day. It is essential to hire a professional wedding photographer or videographer who has experience in capturing the essence of your wedding ceremony. This is especially true when the wedding is held outdoors. A professional photographer or videographer will have the expertise to make the most of the natural lighting and know the ideal time of day to take the photographs. They will also have the skills to work with any natural elements such as wind or rain, ensuring that the photos are still of the highest quality.

Additionally, it's a good idea to plan and find some great locations for your photos before the wedding day. This way, you can be sure that the photographer knows where to go and what to do. In case of rain, it is also wise to have a backup location in mind, so that your day is not disrupted.

Prepare for inclement weather

Having an outdoor wedding means you have to work with elements – and they can be unpredictable. You can do your best in planning where to have your wedding, what time of the year and time of day, but mother nature may still throw you a curveball last minute. Therefore, it’s always best to have a plan B prepared. Some easy solutions to escape inclement weather are:

  • Hiring a marquee
  • Use a gazebo
  • Book an indoor reception venue
  • Provide guests with ponchos or umbrellas

Make sure to keep in touch with your vendors and let them know of any changes in plans due to inclement weather. This will ensure that everyone is on the same page and working together to ensure a smooth and successful event.

Consider the sun

When it comes to an outdoor wedding in Australia, the sun can be a formidable factor to consider. To ensure the comfort of your guests, it's important to protect them from the hot rays. Providing plenty of seating in shaded areas, water cooling stations, and sun umbrellas and parasols during the ceremony will help. If you're getting married during the hottest summer months, with temperatures potentially reaching 40 degrees, having an air-conditioned room nearby for guests to cool down would be a thoughtful touch.

Moreover, the position of the sun will impact the layout of your ceremony. You want your guests to be able to comfortably enjoy the event, so make sure the sun is behind them and avoid scheduling the ceremony during the middle of the day when the sun is high in the sky. By considering the sun and taking steps to mitigate its effects, you can ensure that your outdoor wedding is a beautiful and comfortable event for everyone.

Audio checks

Having a microphone and speakers is a must for outdoor weddings with more than ten guests. Your guests should be able to hear the vows, speeches, and other important moments. Even a light breeze can carry the sound away, making it difficult for guests to hear.

Most professional wedding celebrants will come equipped with their own sound system, so make sure to ask about this when you book them. However, I have attended outdoor weddings where a sound system was not used, and it resulted in the celebrant projecting their voice effectively but the couple speaking softly and inaudibly. To avoid this, it's crucial to have a microphone in place and check the sound pre ceremony.

Consider a professional wedding planner

“Choosing The Right Wedding Venue” - 29 September 2022

 stars

Finding the right wedding venue can be almost as hard as finding the right person to marry! With so many options to go with, it’s difficult to know what venue or location will fit you and your significant other the best on you special day. To help you wade through the jungle of wedding venue options, we have put together a little list of things to consider when hunting for the perfect wedding venue.

Your budget

We have purposely put the budget at the top of our lists as it’s one of the most important things to consider. We would even recommend that, before you start your wedding planning and search for venues, you break down your overall budget by category and priority. This way you can get an overview of how much of your funds you can spend on different vendors and how much you can spend on the venue itself. It is also a good idea to ask what’s included in the venue hire fee and what you will have to bring to create the wedding of your dreams.

How many on the guest list?

To further help narrowing down the list of potential wedding venues, ensure you have finalised the guest list beforehand. Many venues have limited capacity, so depending on how big you guestlist ends up being, some wedding venues may be automatically culled from your list. This will also help you break down your budget, as some venues costs are very dependent on the number of people you’re inviting to the wedding.

Choose your location

Another big one! Deciding on the location of the wedding involves many smaller decisions, each with its on set of aspect to consider. Do you want to get married abroad? Then you have to consider how to get your guests there and where they’ll stay for the duration of your wedding. Thinking of having a beach wedding, what’s the weather going to be like? Once you have decided the location and theme of your wedding, the search for the perfect wedding venue will be easier as the options can be narrowed down.

Pinterest - get a vision in mind

It’s time to start pinning those great ideas to your wedding vision board! Pintrest is one of the most popular platforms for brides-to-be when it comes to getting inspiration for their wedding themes and venues. It can be a great tool in visualising the bigger picture. Worst case scenario, if you can’t find the wedding inspo you were looking for, at least you may be able to define what you DON’T want for your wedding – which is equally important.

Tour prospective venues

One of the most important pieces of the puzzle in finding your perfect wedding venue, is the site inspection. There are nothing like visiting a place in person, although if choosing a venue overseas you might have to settle for a virtual tour. If you are visiting multiple venues before your wedding, a little preparation goes a long way. Write out a list of questions to ask, take a lot of photographs and make sure you measure and time distances etc to ensure everything will go smoothly on the day.

Do you need accommodation?

Are you planning a wedding reception away, or are you inviting guest that are coming from overseas or interstate? In any case you need to organise accommodation for you and your guests. You may want to consider venues with onsite accommodation for convenience. Having to travel long distances between the reception and the accommodation may add cost as well as stress on you and your guests. For a seamless and stress-free experience, look for on-site accommodation with in-house wedding coordinators to help plan the entire wedding.

Inclusions in regards to styling/decorations/furniture?

When browsing for your dream wedding venue remember to ask what is included. Just like residential homes get staged before going on the market, wedding venues are stages to look the best in photos. More often than not you will have to pay extra or bring your own decorations and furniture to complete the look. Get in touch with the venue well before hand to ensure you have enough time to buy all items you need should it not be included in the venue hire.

If outdoors - do you have a backup for bad weather?

They say rain on your wedding day is good luck, but let’s face it, most of us would rather have a sunny day than trusting in an old tale. If you’re planning to have an outdoor ceremony or reception, it’s always wise to check beforehand if there are any wet weather options available. While most venues do have other rooms or covered spaces that can be utilised in the event of an unexpected weather incident, in some places, you might need to organise a marquee or some other form of backup yourself.

Gold Coast Hinterland Helpful Information stars

Where is the Hinterland Gold Coast?

South East Queensland’s best-kept secret (that is no longer a secret) is the stunning mountain rainforest region located west of the Gold Coast - The Gold Coast Hinterland.

The hinterland is widely known as 'the green behind the gold' and the area includes tourist-friendly Tamborine Mountain, stunning Numinbah Valley, UNESCO World heritage listed Lamington National Park and also overlaps with the Scenic Rim.

The natural beauty of the GC hinterland area offers a complete change up to the hustle and bustle of the busy Gold Coast beaches.

There's a whole host of fun and adventure-filled activities to experience. Walk amongst the treetops on the Tamborine Mountain Rainforest Skywalk, tour the Numinbah Valley on horseback or go offroad on a hummer safari just to name a few.

What suburbs are found within the Gold Coast Hinterland?

The suburbs of the Gold Coast hinterland include:

  • Tamborine Mountain
  • Mudgeeraba
  • Tallebudgera
  • Guanaba
  • Cedar Creek
  • Wongawallan
  • Mt Nathan
  • Maudsland

Springbrook National Park covers 2,720 hectares (6,700 acres) of rainforest, plenty of which is accessible by walking trails. Remnants of early forestry history remain; there are several waterfalls, including the famous Purlingbrook Falls, and also many gorges and much rainforest.

Tamborine National Park

Tamborine National Park covers 1,160 hectares (2,900 acres) of Mount Tamborine and is a relic of the once giant Tweed Volcano. Heading in a bit closer to the coast is the Currumbin Valley Reserve but this is not usually considered to be a part of the Gold Coast Hinterland.

Lamington National Park covers 20,590 hectares (50,900 acres) of rainforest, consisting mainly of two sections, the Green Mountains and Binna Burra. The longest walking track is 24 kilometres which equates to about 8 hours of walking time.

“Ceremony Venues” - 21 September 2021

Wedding Ceremony Venues Mt Tamborine stars

Set within our serene property alongside Cedar Creek and Tamborine National Park you are spoiled for choice with our wedding ceremony and reception venues

Avoid the hustle and bustle with an escape to Tamborine Mountain where your dream wedding ceremony can take place, with amazing photo opportunities and minimal fuss when coordinating your special day with us.

The best part about using an outdoor venue to exhange your vows is that the scenery becomes your beautiful, natural décor.

Rainforest Amphitheatre Wedding Venue

Our Rainforest Amphitheatre is a beautiful architecturally designed timber Amphitheatre and Stage.

Located on the banks of Cedar Creek with towering timber columns encased in fairy-lit jasmine, it is the most magnificent location  and perfect venue for your wedding ceremony. It is topped off with a backdrop of ancient rainforest piccabeen palms and native subtropical rainforest flora.

Wedding guests are comfortable and relaxed as their immediate vista encompasses a waterfall tumbling over mossy pebbles and rocks, falling to a delicate canal, bridged gently by a timber walkway.

Their backdrop is the ever-imposing rainforest, with the bridal party centre-stage on the timber platform below.

The CirclesWedding Ceremony Venue

A sandstone bordered walkway which skirts a hedge-lined pathway leading to a timber platform.

Coloured boulders form the striking backdrop to the gently flowing waterfall that trickles into a diminutive pond filled with irises and lilies. A timber bridge straddles this very pretty pond and leads back down to one of the three generous circles.

The giant Tipuana tree’s yellow blossoms have influenced the soft colour palette of ochre and sandstone. The platform sits within its shadow, creating a calm and reflective aura for your outdoor ceremony.

The Garden Ceremony Venue

The Garden is a private grassy knoll bordered by hedges on three sides. It is beautifully manicured and is most picturesque with its rainforest and eucalypt backdrops.

It is a perfect space for intimate, outdoor wedding ceremonies. If there is a requirement to have a much-loved car or other meaningful large objects as part of the ceremony, it has the ability to have these easily included in your special day.

Why You should Go Glamping at Tamborine Mountain This Year

Do you have a love-hate relationship with traditional camping?

Being in nature and breathing in the fresh air without the hustle and bustle from the city is appealing - the lack of convenience and basic amenities is not! If you are someone who finds the great outdoors inspiring but are afraid that pitching a tent in the middle of the woods is a bit too rugged for you, we suggest you try luxury glamping instead. Here's what you need to know...

What is glamping?

As the name implies, glam-ping is the more glamourous version of camping. It is the perfect combination of getting into the great outdoors while keeping the comforts of your own home such as a toilet, a shower and comfortable beds. When glamping, everything is taken care of; no need to pitch a tent, dig a hole for toilet or get the fire going - you just have to show up and enjoy your rustic luxury style accommodation.

When we say glamping, we’re talking a king-sized bed, a large couch and a TV, all inside a massive tent or cabin (we talk different types of glamping in the following section). And as the phenomenon has grown around the world, many glamping sites now offer up luxury facilities such as breakfast in bed, spa baths and much more. And you get to enjoy all this while in nature and beautiful surrounds – it is the ultimate way to relax and unwind on a holiday.

Types of Glamping

Glamping comes in many shapes and form, and is available in a variety of destinations across the globe. From cabins, lodges and glamping pods, to safari tents and yurts and tepees, your luxury glamping accommodation can look whichever way you want it to. But how does one pick?

Many people pick the style of accommodation based on the destination. If you’re going to the savannah, a safari tent makes sense. If you’re want to enjoy the vistas, a tree house would be your best options. In colder climate you can even go glamping in igloos, if you’re not scared of frostbite that is. Do you research and enjoy the many quirky accommodation options for the adventurous traveller.

Benefits of Glamping:

So, now we have explored more of what glamping entails and the many different ways your glamping accommodation can look, but are there any more benefits to this hype? Plenty, if you ask us:

The Price One of the best parts about this type of luxury accommodation is that it typically doesn’t come with the price tag of traditional luxury hotels or resorts. It’s not unusual that glamping sites and tents are run by individuals or small businesses, which means there is no overhead of a big resort property or maintenance and your money goes straight into the local community
Beginner friendly You don’t have to be an expert to go glamping, not even close. It will require no prior camping knowledge, neither do you need any camp gear or equipment. Glamping allows you to experience nature on your terms and you can slowly up your level of “roughness” as you get the hang of it – if you want to!
Eco Friendly Not only does glamping immerse you in nature, it also helps you protect it. Many glamping facilities are using solar power or wind power for their operations and are usually good at mimimising their carbon footprint. As ecotourism rises in demand, glamping stands a great chance to skyrocket in popularity.

“Art - The Gallery” - 16 November 2020

Art - The Gallery stars

Cedar Creek Lodges at Thunderbird Park has transformed its Lobby and Lounge Bar walls into an exhibition space showcasing beautiful Scenic Rim artworks.

With some 200,000 visitors and guests passing through each year, we are hopeful that this will translate into our artists’ works being purchased by art lovers from near and far.

The Gallery was officially opened at an invitation-only event of 90 art enthusiasts on Wednesday, 3rd November by the Hon. Dame Quentin Bryce AD CVO.

Artists

Louise Grove Wiechers (The Gallery Curator)
Louise has an extraordinary ability to transport the viewer far from everyday and into another world by capturing both the vibrant spirit and peacefulness of rural living. The natural beauty of our Scenic Rim vistas has given Louise endless inspiration. She understands the effect of light and colour on the senses. With animated, colourful brushwork; lifestyle and landscape are fused radiantly together. Louise is also a qualified fine-art printmaker and has a collection of etchings, lino, collagraph and life drawings on display.

Trish Price
Art has been Trish’s passion since she first took lessons as a child. However, it is through developing her techniques of painting in acrylics that Trish has found her feet. Her style is marked by realistic images of Australian landscapes and the creatures that live there. Loving Australian birds, Trish’s artwork has a special focus on these gorgeous forest and garden dwellers. Her works give the viewer an opportunity to share with the artist an appreciation for beauty, mystery and a connection with the Australian bush and wildlife.

Helen Griffin
Helen works from pictures taken while walking on bush tracks, by the ocean or over rocky, dry terrain. Her images are impressionistic - an attempt to capture the transience of the moment and her reaction to that moment. Her choices of colour for the initial "wash" determine mood, and the speed and urgency of line and paint application are an instinctive effort to capture the immediacy of the moment. She's never certain of what she's going to create, but a new reality is produced, which she hopes to capture the experience.

Debaran Wright
Art making is the diary of Debaran's life. Although she teaches many various mediums, she finds the combination of materials and textures to be the most exciting and experimental. Her work includes the use of bitumen, shellac, ink, paper, print, acrylics, found objects and oils. She has exhibited in many galleries and her work has been purchased by clients in Brisbane, Sydney, London and The Hague. One of her latest sales was to the Redland Shire Council and it now hangs in their offices.

Karen Feild
Karen's paintings are very vibrant, colorful, acrylic on stretched canvas. She loves naive, large brush strokes. Her subjects range from very abstract to still lifes. She enjoys colour like crazy and if she gets an idea in her head, she will experiment and then possibly create a series of similar yet different paintings. She has loved art her whole life and whenever there was an opportunity to give back to the community or to take a class or be involved with something creative she was always a part of it.

Abigail Chaloupka
Art, music and culture are an integral part of Abi’s life. She’s a contemporary artist with strong indigenous influence. A deep respect for ceremony, art and traditional culture was instilled in Abi at a very young age. Formal education helped to further develop Abi’s discipline and practices. She has matured to become a practical art maker who can produce works from murals to performance art. Now living in Wangeriburra Country, Abi continues to dedicate her art to the respect and acknowledgment of the sacredness of landscape.

“Eco Tourism” - 16 November 2020

Cedar Creek Lodges & Thunderbird are now Eco Certified in Nature Tourism!

What is Eco Certification?

As a world first, the ECO Certification program was developed to help travellers choose tourism products (tours, accommodations, attractions) that are using sustainable practices in their business operations and nature-based tourism experiences. Nature and ecotourism operators will need to fulfill a set of criteria to be awarded the ECO Certification.

The ECO Certification Program is divided into three levels and Thunderbird Park is working with EcoTourism Australia for certification under the Nature Tourism category. This category only certifies those businesses which have adjusted their operations to leave minimal impacts on their natural areas in which they operate.

We have outlined below a list of initiatives undertaken, some of which are still in the planning stage.

Reduce the waste going to land fill by:

  • Compacting cardboard and paper, including paper cups and take away containers.
  • Using the cardboard/paper bundles from the above compaction, as the surrounds for the compost bays.
  • Encouraging guests to separate waste with general waste, recycling and cardboards bins supplied.
  • Separating green waste in all kitchens and taking this waste to compost bays.
  • Kitchens as noted above.
  • Cardboard and paper as noted above.
  • Grass clippings and pruning waste.

Efficient use of power:

  • Using solar where possible – this is limited because of the extensive tree coverage.
  • Providing additional storage for water, generally allowing pumping to be conducted at non-peak periods.
  • Progressively replacing all electrical equipment with lower power usage options.
  • Grey water from sewerage treatment used for irrigation where appropriate.
  • Solid waste from sewerage treatment composted in separate bays from general compost bays.

Undertaking a revegetation program including:

  • Hand removal of weeds where infestation is minimal.
  • Poisoning major weed areas.
  • Identifying and protecting young growth in previously weed infested areas.
  • Planting endemic plants (tube stock) where needed, to ensure full regeneration.
